Third and Fourth Article
For my third source, I looked at an article that discussed how artists are now using many different types of media to create a story about themselves that the public will want to follow. In essence, they are selling their image instead of just their music. This article gave me the idea of looking at an artist's entire image instead of just their album cover. I could analyze all of the visual media that are connected to the artist and discuss how that helps artists to sell their music. I could also analyze the image that different artists portray and how that affects who purchases their music. The fourth article I looked at was about cover art, and the way it changed when CDs became the source of music instead of records. This article will be helpful when looking at cover art and will give me something to go off of.
Proposal and Second Article
The second source I looked at was a chapter from the text book used in our class. The chapter discussed a detailed way to analyze an image. I will definitely use this in my paper to analyze the different cover artwork and the message it sends to its audience. I also submitted a research proposal that introduced my ideas for the project as a whole. I decided I want to look at the covers of CDs and analyze the image they present. I also want to look at the covers from a sales point and analyze whether or not they effectively portray the music they are trying to sell. This idea is general, but it is the basis for my research project.
First Research Post
The first article that I looked at analyzed Miley Cyrus's switch in image from good girl to bad girl. This article was a good place to start because in provided a basis for my research and gave me more ideas about what I actually wanted to do with the project. I will most likely not use this article, but it changed my idea of what I wanted from the project. I started out wanting to analyze one or two album covers to see how they effected the consumer's view of the artist and their work. Later on I expanded this idea.
